Off into the hills...

We're packing up this morning and heading off to Nakiska...

We've hired a bus/van that'll take us there that we will be catching with two girls we met on the way into Calgary (also aussies) and another girl who the resort put us in touch with...

I'm not feeling so great cos I think it's all starting to dawn on me...we went shopping last night and it was horrendous...not only could you only get things in huge sizes but we were looking at things going, that's an hours work, that's 2 hours work...it's pretty shit...and not only that, there health food section is about 1/20 of the size of the safeway/coles in australia...I think yr all gonna have to send me over my necessities...oh and you can forget about buying organic...the tins of kidney beans in aus, $1.25 here? Equates to AU$3.15...yep, almost 1/2hrs work for one tin of beans...

The other thing we noticed is that for the amount you pay in the supermarket for ingredients for a healthy dinner, you could much more easily go and buy a 'meal' at one of the many fast food outlets. 99c burgers, 25c wing dings...all meat of course...but there is so much less of an incentive to cook at home and eat healthily...and don't talk to me about Alberta beef!

I'm dying to find a health food shop now...not that I could afford anything in there...We're trying not to dip into our savings for everyday living stuff...if we find that we have to on a regular basis, I think we're going to ship out and head to Vancouver...I like Vancouver...it was a lot like Melbourne in the way it felt...get a 'real' job there for a while and head up to Whistler every weekend.

But, big breath in, I'm gonna try giving this a go for at least a month or so...

Canada has lots and lots of homeless people...there were stacks of punks on Granville St (street the backpackers was on) bumming change in exchange for weed.

It's a lot sadder here in Calgary as it's 0 degrees out there tonight and we got asked for change about 10 times today, apparently there are deaths during winter every year. Though Calgary is supposed to have a really good support system for the homeless to help through the cold months.

Those prossies in Vancouver...

I didn't realise they weren't uploaded!

This was the view back in Vancouver out the window of the backpackers...I couldn't sleep so I sat watching the girls across the road in their matching white boots and white jackets get picked up and dropped off over a few hours.

Then there was action!

This guy was handcuffed as he got his SUV searched, I'm guessing for drugs...they didn't find anything...so they let him go about half an hour later...they must have been following the guy as they came out of nowhere...

That question from Canadians is starting to worry me...

So, I'm backtracking a little from my email but, meh, stop reading if yr not into it...

The thing is, until we got to Calgary (1 1/2hrs away from Nakiska), nobody knew of Nakiska! Even Canadians!

So now I'm worrying...I'm thinking The Shining, I must go purchase a tricycle before heading up there...

Apparently the closest grocery store is 45 minutes away from where we are staying. I'm not sure about the internet yet but if there is no connection, I'm packing up and heading out...there's no way nerdy me can live without the net...my dashboard wouldn't be able to update!

It is erm...Thursday here and we're getting a chartered bus (there's no regular bus service, not even an irregular one either!) on Saturday so we're going to buy 2 new big suitcase things to stuff with space bags of stuff and food. Yes mum the red suitcase has finally karked it...we had a bit of a space bag malfunction on the way and had many people commenting on our bursting suitcase...
